The PhD Researcher from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, Engineer Firoz Khan, conducted on 19-20 May 2022 the tests of the Pelton Nozzle Model, witnessed by our Design and Engineering team. The model was designed and manufactured by FLOVEL under agreement with that reputed Institution.

The detailed scope of FLOVEL in this cooperation was to design and manufacture a model of Pelton nozzle with variants of needle angle as well as two versions for jet interception, one jet cutter and one jet deflector.

The experimental witnessed testing program was completed at the international-level Hydro Turbine R&D Laboratory established at Hydro Renewable Energy Department (HRED), Roorkee. This is a design and validation facility in addition to conducting research in hydro turbines and other hydro mechanical equipment. At the same laboratory, CFD simulation program will be carried out for validation of the designs. HRED’s laboratory is sponsored by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy – Government of India.

From the development work, results will be used for a scientific paper and thesis writing. Also, it allowed FLOVEL to further investigate on characteristics of existing hydraulic design and variants, as well as to develop a jet cutter new technology for regulation purpose. This research work is part of the FLOVEL’s R&D program.

This is a good example of how industry-academy cooperation can benefit both. We thank IIT Roorkee, especially prof. Arun Kumar who encouraged and made possible this joint work.
